I had lunch with Chris in Tuscon last February, 07. He showed me some digital prints from his recent trip in Iceland. It was some of Chris' first digital prints of landscapes I had seen and were quite handsome. His immersion into the minimal Icelandic landscape flowed through the work eloquently. Chris also showed me a couple of Ambrotypes he had recently made. He mentioned he was doing Ambrotype printing at Segura press for the likes of Louis Gonzalez Palma and had recently assisted Kiki Smith. I often like to mention Chris' squid photograms in my classes, both for the process and the unique, one of kind prints he gets from the decaying flesh that causes a chemical reaction on the paper. I have always had a lot of respect for Chris' approach to image making and find his merging of concept and poetry, exquisite. He is also a genuinely great guy. It looks like Chris is in good company for this exhibit.
