Glamour Shots and Wearing My Teachers Hat

One of the pleasures of teaching is working and learning with students from all kinds of backgrounds and interests. Currently we are doing studio lighting in my advanced photo class and each student is individually shooting a project in the lighting studio. Omar and I have worked with each other for about two years now, and over that time he has came to the realization that he wants to become a fashion photographer in his hometown of Manhattan, NY. Being a fine art department, we don't generally teach fashion lighting, though we do have the equipment such as a ring flash and soft boxes. Hence yesterday Omar and I worked for several hours on developing his portfolio and completing the assignment for my class. I was very impressed with his motivation and entourage of a makeup artist, a wardrobe person, and a moral support team. It was a lot of fun!
