I have been working on a series of photographs exploring the domestic aspects of our life and home. During the summer of 2007, I taught our son Emmit about bird watching. I was inspired in both my personal life and photographs by the book, To See Every Bird on Earth: A Father, a Son, and a Lifetime Obsession, by Dan Koeppel. I was also mourning the passing of a loved one and used her personal objects as memento moris (latin for “remember you are mortal). “Shui” was an avid bird watcher and naturalist. These photograph are made in her honor and legacy.
