My wife this weekend discovered a suspicious lump on her side. She went to the doctor and after a battery of tests and an ultrasound, it was determined that it was not cancerous but some type of allergic reaction. Needless to say, it was serious enough for the doctor to preference her diagnosis with "the good news is, that it is not cancer."
Breast cancer and other forms of cancer are a big reality of life and aging. A photo that really stands out to me is the early 1990's photograph of the breast cancer survivor, Matushka, on the cover of the Sunday New York Times magazine. Years later, while I was a Visiting Faculty at Prescott College, she visited the college (she attended the school for a year in the early 1970's) to make a presentation.
