My mother-in-law invited me to come along to a Seaweed class here on the island. Not knowing much about seaweed (aside from some nori paper we eat as snacks and sushi) it seemed like a good thing to do. All said and done, it was a very informative class and I will never look at the seashore quite the same again.

For example did you know that that most gourmet ice cream contains seaweed or that many kinds of seaweed have medicinal usages, or that it is illegal to collect seaweed without license? Our teacher Ryan was the man with the answers and I highly recommend that everyone spend 4 hours along the sea shore being educated about some of the history, culture, and uses of seaweed.
