Chlorophyll, Roger Hangarter and Dennis DeHartChlorophyll represents one of nature’s more magical potions. When one observes a bottle of this green elixir, one cannot help but feel a reverence and awe for its power. Chlorophyll is present in all green plants and is responsible for the absorption of light to provide energy for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis generates oxygen, which is life for our planet. Chlorophyll also is a light sensitive substance that can record images. It may be one of the oldest recording tools known to human kind, though one we will never know for sure, since the image recorded on chlorophyll is fugitive and cannot be permanently fixed.

Morphology refers to the outward appearance of plants. In contrast, physiology deals primarily with function. When contemplating the power of plants, a marriage of function and form fully encapsulates the phenomena of plants. In the photograph Tree Curl, the unique form and shape of the branches is a direct result of the trees location on the side of a mountain. The photograph documents the trees energetic struggle to compete with other plants, in an environment limited by resources such as sunlight and water.
